Dennis Hardesty

Dennis Hardesty of Hammond, Indiana. Former Manager of the Whiting Boxing Club is now Manager of the Hammond Boxing Club. Dennis has been training boxers since 1977. Like others in the business he wears many hats; from Head Trainer, Cut Man, to Chief Cornerman, Hardesty has been there. He has worked not only in the U.S. but also in many countries in Europe, Kazahstan as well as the country of South Africa.

Hardesty has done personal training for members and affiliates of the National Italian American Sports Hall Of Fame in Chicago, IL. There are many other Managers and Promoters that send their boxers to Hardesty for permanent training or just to tune them up.

As Manager of the H.B.C. Dennis hopes to help many young men and women become future contributing citizens to their communities.

Jack “Kid” Callahan

Jack will serve as co-head trainer with Dennis Hardesty. He is the 1st Professional Boxer to come out of the Whiting Boxing Club. Jack is a veteran of 33 professional fights. He lost to Matthew Hilton for the World title in 1987 on the same card as Mike Tyson. Jack also fought in Australia in 1988 for the British Commonwealth Title against Troy Waters. He has trained professional boxers for over 10 years. He has been a chief second for many professional bouts. Jack has worn many hats in the Boxing industry; from professional fighter himself, to referee, to trainer and even some promoting. Jack is also an EMT/Firefighter for the City of Hammond. With Jack, we have a very experienced trainer with a medical background.

Eric has been with Dennis Hardesty since he was 9 years old. A former amateur and a professional boxing veteran of 34 professional bouts. Eric has been training amateur and professional fighters for 7 years. He is also a professional boxing promoter. Through boxing he has traveled all over the U.S.A. and into Canada and Europe. The Hammond Boxing club is proud to offer the training and promoting expertise of Eric Jakubowski.

Amy Yuratovac

Former amateur boxer and now a professional boxer. We are hoping she will be able to inspire some females into the boxing world. She came to the Whiting Boxing Club when she was just 12 years old, and has been with Dennis Hardesty ever since. She currently is ranked 4th in the world by the WBC (World Boxing Council). She lost a decision to Christy Martin and was literally robbed of the title in Mexico City against Mia St. John for the WBC World Title Fight in 2008. A very controversial decision, and many thought the title was hers including the WBC who presented her with a gold watch after the fight. Now a student at Purdue calumet, Amy is able to juggle school work, training and being a mother. She is always ready for her next chance at a Title.

Ryan coached for 3 years at the Whiting Boxing Club under the direction of Hardesty. His son Jake was an amateur at the Whiting Boxing Club. Ryan has been around boxing for 7 years. He will serve as coach and conditioner.

Coach Chris started boxing at the age of nine. Since his father was the Manager of the Whiting Boxing Club, boxing is in his blood. Coach Chris is the Head Coach for the H.B.C. Junior Division. He also serves as a professional cornerman. Chris has the experience as a boxer and a coach.

Coach Rafael is also a former member of the Whiting Boxing Club. He started boxing at the age of 15. Rafael grew up in Hammond, In. and is now giving back to his community.

Coach Jimmy grew up in the Whiting Boxing Club. He started boxing at the age of 14. As a youngster you could always find him at the Whiting Boxing Club sharpening his skills.

Tiffany Griffin

Tiffany is a boxer and also serves a coach for the H.B.C. Coached by Chicago Coach Mike Quiroz. Her titles are 2008 and 2009 Illinois State Champion and the 2007 Chicago Golden Gloves Champion. Coach Tiffany brings a lot of knowledge in her teaching.

Coach Taylor grew up on the South Side of Chicago. He boxed out of Woodlawn Boys Club. A 1986 Gold Medal Champion of the Illinois Prairie State Games. Also a semi finalist of the 1987 Chicago Golden Gloves.

Mark is a former amateur Boxer. He fought out of Gary in the 1970’s. He worked along side of Dennis Hardesty as well at the Whiting Boxing club for 4 years. Although Mark has been involved in boxing is some capacity for many years. Along with Ryan Vanderwoude, Mark will serve as coach and conditioner.

Coach Barry Ludwig is another one that grew up in the Whiting Boxing Club. From a young man to an adult you could find Barry at the club sharpening his skills. He brings years of experience with him to the Hammond Boxing Club. We welcome his knowledge and his ability to work with all ages.

Shawn Ferry

Coach Shawn is originally from Lafayette In. now living in Hammond, In. He started boxing at the age of 14 at the Lafayette Boxing Club under the guidance of Coach Dick Weatherford. Shawn went on to make his mark in boxing by winning the Indianapolis Golden Gloves. Coach Shawn captured the G.G. titles in 1980, 81 and 1982.
